Jason Matias, an emerging artist from Bellevue, Washington, is the first artist to be represented in Carnevale Gallery’s Relevance & Opportunity program. Upon graduating with a masters in Organizational Leadership, Jason spent his postgraduate career as a member of the US Air Force. He served in Alaska, Nevada, and Afghanistan making leadership and learning at the core of who he is today.
His first camera was purchased while stationed at Eielson AFB in Alaska, giving him ample backcountry frontier landscapes to document. When he encountered wolves on a solo trip, “no picture, no proof” became the joke on base. With such surreal natural beauty and wildlife, he found his passion.
Jason’s work has been internationally published. He was awarded 2013 Hawaii Photographer of the Year, has been published in National Geographic as well as named to the top 100 night sky photographers by Space.com. His future is bright and we are honored to foster support and provide exposure to such a talented up and coming artist.
